Product description
This Horror Bearbrick from Series 11 celebrates one of the most iconic Japanese gaming classics of all time and proves that Medicom Toy has a keen sense for the intersection of nostalgia, pop culture, and designer toy aesthetics. Pop-Up Pirate, known in Japan as Kurohige Kiki Ippatsu since 1975, has captivated generations of children worldwide with its simple yet ingenious gameplay: A pirate is placed inside a barrel, and players take turns thrusting swords into slots until the pirate suddenly pops out, surprising the unsuspecting player. Over 20 million copies of this Tomy classic have been sold, making the nervous anticipation of the explosive pop-up moment a universal childhood experience.
The placement in the horror category is a tongue-in-cheek interpretation of the shock element that makes Pop-Up Pirate so entertaining. While the horror category is usually reserved for classic horror movie icons, this Bearbrick shows that the sudden jump scare of a pirate leaping out of the box is its own form of playful horror. The design perfectly translates the characteristic look of the original toy into the Bearbrick format: the flesh-colored skin, black eye patch, classic blue-and-white striped shirt, and brown trousers create that unmistakable pirate aesthetic that has defined children's bedrooms worldwide for decades.
Series 11 was released in December 2005, exactly 30 years after the birth of Pop-Up Pirate, and this Bearbrick celebrates the anniversary of a toy that achieved success in 47 countries through its lack of language and universal appeal. The striped sailor shirt, cartoonish face paint, and robust color scheme make this Bearbrick a visually appealing piece that evokes nostalgic memories of nervous game sessions where everyone feared being the unfortunate one who freed the pirate.
For collectors, this Bearbrick combines Japanese toy culture with the designer toy movement, demonstrating how Medicom Toy integrates cultural icons from diverse fields into its universe. A charming piece of childhood nostalgia in a timeless 100% format.

What packaging does this Bearbrick come in?
This Bearbrick comes in the official original Medicom Toy packaging (see specifications). This is often a collector's item in its own right and important for preserving the model's value. We take care to ensure secure packaging for shipping to prevent damage during transport.
What material is this Bearbrick made of and how do I best care for it?
Most Bearbricks are made of high-quality plastic (ABS plastic), unless otherwise stated in the specifications. For maintenance, we recommend gently dusting the figure regularly with a soft, dry cloth. On chrome versions, fingerprints should be avoided; cloth gloves may be helpful here. Direct sunlight and high humidity should be avoided to protect the colors and material over time and ensure long-term value retention.

How does the quality and mobility of this model differ from other sizes?
Medicom Toy's production quality is very high across all sizes. Larger models (400% or 1000%) often offer more space for detailed designs. However, the joints vary depending on the size: In larger models (400% and 1000%), the arms and legs usually rotate in a single plane. Smaller Bearbricks (especially 100% and 200%) often have ball joints, allowing for more flexible movement of the limbs.
